2010/2011 Biology Schedule

Exploring Creation with Biology

I have finally finished the schedule for the up coming school year.  This is written for my co-op class.  Feel free to use it as a guide to making your own schedule.  I have had to move several modules around to fit my need.  One of the major changes was taking out Module 9 all together.

Click on the book to get to the Apologia Ministries for more information on this textbook.

If you need to see other Biology schedules you can find them at DonnaYoung.org .  My last years schedule is still posted and you can find the link on my Biology page.

2010/2011 Apologia Biology Homeschool Schedule in pdf form.  Subject to change!

On this schedule you find I’ll be doing pretty much the same as last year, expect Module 9 and dissecting the pig. 🙂  The Mandatory Field Trip is still on there. Love doing that.  All the kids had so much fun.

Care and Handling of Microscopes This will be signed by parents and students.

I require a lab write-up for every experiment done.  Because of the way a co-op is structured, we will be using lab write-up forms from, you guessed it….DONNA YOUNG! If we were not in a co-op, I would have my kids use a good composition book.

Read why you should keep a lab book here.

This is how a lab should be written up. 🙂

Some videos I’ll be using for the next school year.

Module 2:

Molecular Machines Scroll to the bottom to see some animated movies.   Cool Stuff!

Case For Creator – Bacterial Flagellum

Flagellum drawing with an actual photo

Video of the microscopic world. I made this last  year. 🙂

Module 3

Pictures of mutualism relationships

Commensalism

Parasitism Relationships always creepy.

I’ll add more to this later.

Don’t forget the Biology Bingo Vocabulary Game!

QUIZZES can be found here.

I hope everyone has a great Biology year!  Come back and read what is happening my class.

  1. Yes, I want the free quizzes! Sure, why not. I’ll let *you* do all the work. 😀

And for what reason did you decide not to do module 9?

    • It’s boring. LOL No, not really. I will be absent from the co-op for two co-op days, so the kids will be watching a movie instead of doing Module 9. BUT I will be pulling out certain things from that Module that they will need to know and they will have a mini-test on that. Your addy is on the list. I’ll be mailing it out soon. 🙂

      • Hello, I’m interested in the Biology quizzes! I’m teaching Biology at our co-op in West Virginia and have been very blessed by your site! Thanks so much!

        Blessings,
        Angie

  3. I’d love the quizzes. My son will be in Biology next year. Would love to have it set up early! Thanks for all you do!

  4. Great Job and Thank you for sharing.

  5. I will be teaching biology lab at our co-op this fall, and I am very excited to find your site. May I please have the quizzes too. Thanks so much. Kim

  6. Thank you again for all your hard work!! We get to enjoy it, LOL! I plan to use your blog as a resource to my biology class this year.

  7. I really like it Michelle, and the little pictures are a nice touch! =)

    • Thanks! The kids seem to like the little pics. lol I totally forgot about insect collecting, so that has to be added later. This is why I always put “subject to change”. 😀

  8. This is a great resource, Applie!

  9. I love your site. We are teaching biology next year but we are using the first edition. Do you think there are too many changes for me to use your schedule and quizzes?

    • Yes, there are differences. Especially in the labs. There are a few more labs in the 2nd edition than the first one. I know there are pages differences also. I am not sure about the quizzes.

  10. I would love a copy of any quizzes/tests you are willing to share. I will make sure that you receive credit! Thank you

  11. I just stumbled upon your blog yesterday and am so thankful! I will be teaching Biology to a high school co-op in the fall which is both thrilling and a wee bit intimidating. I have bookmarked your blog and will return to it frequently. :o)
Thanks also for the sprinkling of humor throughout your posts… I need to laugh more often!
Yes, please send me the quizzes.

  12. I love your site!! Thank you so much for your transparency and willingness to share!! I will be teaching biology and general science for the first time this fall–I have a degree in biology but have never taught upper schoolers!! Would love to use your tests and quizzes as well!! A great big THANK YOU!! for all of the thoughts and hints on your blog–thanks also to Donna for posting links to you!!

  13. What a priceless resource! I’ve used many of Donna Young’s tools for my children when they were younger. Seems I’ve blinked and my dd is now entering high school, doesn’t seem possible. If the test/quizzes are still available I’d like them as well.

Many thanks for sharing your gift to teach and organize.

  14. Wow! You have done a wonderful job on your blog and all the information you are sharing. I am teaching biology at a homeschool academy for the first time this year and I am getting a little nervous. I would love to use your quizzes.
I am so thankful to have stumbled on your blog today. Hopefully reading through more of your blog, my nerves will calm down. Praise God for your time and willingness to share your resources with us.

  15. You have a great site. Very helpful and informative. I would love to have the quizzes as I am teaching a Biology co-op this year.

Also what are your thoughts on the quarterly test that come with the 2nd edition books? I didn’t see them on your schedule.

    Thanks,
    Sherry

    • Hi Sherry,

I’ll send the quizzes later tonight. Last year, I did semester testing and all I did was copy the first two quarterly tests and handed that out to the students as a semester exam. Was going to do the same with the last two quarterly tests at the end of the year, but didn’t.

I feel like there is not enough time for the kids to prepare for quarterly tests, along with all the experiments, and tests they already have.

  16. I’d like to have the quizzes to use for our co-op biology class, too. Thanks for making them available as well as your experiences that we can learn from.

  17. I’d love the quizes. I am teaching this Biology to our homeschool co-op this year as well.

    Thanks!

  18. Hello. Thanks for the blog and the funny comments. It sure makes planning biology a whole lot easier…. except now I have been reading your blog for 30 minutes because it’s so much fun. Between that and the kiddo interruptions, I may be done by December. But I digress. To make me feel more productive, could you please send the quizzes? Thanks so much.

  19. This site is a great site. Your love for Biology shows. I’d be very grateful for your quizzes that you have made. I can mark that off my list 🙂 THANKS!!

  20. Quick question?? I’m new to co-0pping and will be doing Biology once a week w/ a few students. Do you have the students take the tests at home and bring them back to you for grading? That keeps the schedule moving if they don’t have to be at my home for the test. Any suggestions will be appreciated!
    Thanks! 🙂

    • The students take the tests at home and bring them to me the following co-op day for grading. There just isn’t enough time at co-op to do the tests there. We meet only one time a week and usually the students have a text every other week. So, taking the tests at home works well for us.

  21. I am beginning to teach a Biology co-op and I would like to know what program you use to make out the wonderful schedule? I will also only have and hour and a half to teach so do you find it best to sum up what they should have read already at the beginning of class and then move on to experiements? Or do you cover new material and take up more time with that before moving on to experiements? I would love you quizzes too! Thank you so much!!

    • Hi Donna,

I get all of my scheduling forms from http://www.donnayoung.org .

Usually the experiment covers what they have already read. While we do the experiment, I’ll go over what they have read and add new things that I happen to think of that might go with the experiment. If there is time, I’ll go over what they will be reading.

I’ll send out the quizzes later this weekend.

      Thank you!

  22. Exceptional website! Anyone who loves Biology, especially those teaching the subject, should pay a visit. I have the pleasure of teaching a co-op group this year, and would appreciate your quizzes. Thank you!

  23. I would love a copy of your quizzes. This is my 3rd year teaching Apologia. I have done General and Physical at our co-op and this year am taking on Biology. Thanks for laying down the rails!!

    Jo

  24. Carol Schroeder

Could you email me your quizzes? Thanks.
    Carol <

  25. I would really love your quizzes also as I will be in Africa and all the resources I can get have before I leave would be great (internet is always iffy) Thanks for all you do I use your stuff and Donna Young’s a lot.

  26. Michele Presley

Would really appreciate getting a copy of your quizzes. Just found your site today, and love it! God Bless you for all your hard work.

  27. Wow! You have done a great job and service here. The incredible edible cell is fabulous. I am sure you all had a good time with that. I am going to teach Apologia biology to a large group of homeschool students this year. May I have your permission to use your microscope policy sheet, although I would modify it for my use? Also, if you could send me your quizzes, that would be very helpful.
Blessings to you and your family!

  28. Could you send me your quizzes and microscope test? Thanks So Much! Great info and help!

  29. I would also like to have your quizes and microscope test. Thanks for all your work on this…it sure helps us “muddle our way through” people.

  30. What a helpful site for me!! Thank you so much for your generosity in sharing tips, schedule, etc. Would you please send me the kwizzes? Like that spelling? Guess which key of our apple computer is not working?!?! 🙂 🙂

  31. Your site has helped me SO much in teaching a Biology Co-op this year. I have 10 students (including my own 2) and it going very well. Would LOVE the quizzes. Thanks so much!

  32. Wow – what a blessing you are to me!!! My high school biology experience was, hmmm, less than acceptable and was actually one thing that led me to homeschooling! Now *I* will be teaching a Biology co-op?!?! Who’d’ve’thunk’it?! I would love copies of the microscope test and quizzes!

Also, what do you do for the Animal Relationship Photos? (End of module 9) and do you have your genetics worksheet to share?

Thank you SOOOOO much for being willing to share all of your hard work with us! You are such a blessing to the whole homeschool community!!

  33. Hi!
I’d love the quizzes to use. I think they’ll help my DS to be ready for the tests. Wish we had a co-op around here! Thanks for your website, it’s great!
Blessings to you and your family.

  34. Hello again,
I received your e-mail concerning subscribing. Is this how I get the quizzes? I didn’t see any other attachments to it.
    Thanks!

  35. hello,

I have read all through your website and really like it. My son is taking biology ow through our co-op. I would be grateful to have those quizzes that you have made for the modules 1-6 and any others you may have. i don’t need the microscope quiz.

    Thanks so much,

    Betty in Florida

    • Betty, Nice try. You know your son is in my class! No, you can not have the quizzes. LOL

For everyone else: Betty did not know I had a blog. She was not cheating, but you know me, I have to get on her case about the request. LOL

  36. Appliejuice,

Thank you so much for taking the time to show us what you do in biology. I am teaching the biology class at our co-op this year. In between the Apologia Yahoo group and you…I look like I know what I am doing. I have been using “alternate” or homemade tests also. I don’t like to use them straight from the books. Can you email me a copy of your tests also? Thanks so much for all your hard work for the homeschooling community! Blessings! Casey

  37. Quizzes please! If its not too late…

  38. Jackie Colón

I will be teaching my second daughter and two of her friends this coming year. I’m trying to get everything organized and would love to have these quizzes. My first daughter did the course on her own with little input from me, but that won’t work with daughter number 2!

  39. Wow! You’re a true servant for sharing what you do with us. I would be very interested in all your quizzes/tests. There are only a few of us in the ski resorts of Colorado doing Apologia Biology. Thank you this very helpful information.

  40. Thanks so much for sharing your expertise! Could you please send me the quizzes for the microscope and the modules? Thank you.

  41. Jamie Saunders

Thank you for sharing these wonderful helps with us! I will be leading a class this year for the first time and would love to receive all your quizzes! Thanks!

  42. You are a true blessing to many of us who are in need of wisdom & guidance. Thank you so much for sharing it! Would you mind sending me tests/quizzes? Thank you so very much. 🙂
