Oh Look, Visitors!

In our laundry room.

Wolf Spider   When I found out what it was, I went back to capture it.  I wanted to keep it in a jar for observation, but it was gone.   😦

 On the children’s picnic table.

A common toad.  That is my 7yo’s finger, to show you how small they are.   They are every where now and I often wonder how many I have stepped on.  eeek.

On our neighbor’s fence.

Our neighbor asked us to come over and identify this snake.   Matthew went along and I grabbed my camera.  It is a common Yellow Rat Snake.  I thought Matthew would want to capture it as a pet, but he wants a Red Rat Snake.

Do you enjoy visitors?

  1. Not snakes…. the rest is fine.

    Pretty panties by the way!

  2. Yes, especially the wolf spider. I wish you could have caught it. Was it big?

  3. Trusting God, you noticed they were panties. I wondered who would. LOL They were R’s and I had to convience her that spider was long gone. ROTFL

Donna, I caught a jumping spider (I think) and kept it in the jar, but it stayed at the lid. It was a bummer. I really wanted a Wolf Spider, since you had success with it. Yes, it was big, at least 3″ leg to leg.

  4. Yuck on spiders.
Caught a huge green grass snake the other day. The German Shepard steps over it twice thinking it was a stick. I held it up for the dog and he got a hissing from the snake. I put the snake back down and we both watched it slither away. Dog now makes a big “U” around the area where the snake was. That was three weeks ago!
Did have two bears in the yard this week. Big black bears but no camera around at the time. Just scared girls!

  5. LOL… It was the lace…

  6. I am happy to say that I have not had a wolf spider in my house since we moved here. I have plenty of garter snake visitors though. I saw one at Petco the other day. They wanted $20 for it. Man, I could make a fortune with all the snakes I have in my yard. Does Matthew want a garter snake? He is more than welcome to come and catch all he wants.

  7. Wow, it’s been an exciting day over at your house!

I hate wolf spiders. I was emotionally scarred by one as a child and they freak me out to this day. LOL I would have been pleased to see the other visitors, though. 🙂

  8. How COOL Michelle! 😀 We need to get together and go a-photo-snappin’, I’m tellin’ ya.

We’ve had a few wolf spiders in the house over the years. They can get big! We also had a garter snake, that looked an awful lot like that rat snake, last year in our garden. He didn’t pose as perdy as yours did. 😆

Awesome photos, Mizz Applie! 😀 Hugs, Robin

  9. Am I the only one who just doesn’t appreciate any visitors except the 2 legged kind??? I feel so alone!!!

    Applie….this just isn’t normal!

  10. OK, thanks for that little jolt this morning. I caught a stag beetle last week for the boys….they were barely interested. I guess we have so many bugs outside that they aren’t so easily impressed.

  11. I do not prefer visitors unless I have invited them over. When we lived in Alaska the moose were always welcome, they are so fun to watch.

  12. Noah saw a wolf spider at camp but didn’t take a picture of it 😦 cute toad but they grow up…..the snake? he’s ok, but I’m not sure I would want to domesticate him.

  13. CC, I’m with you although I don’t mind dogs or cat but they don’t usually come w/o an invitation.

Applie, I’m questioning the thoughts I’ve had of visiting you when/if I get to Florida. We may have to meet at my hotel so that I don’t have to do the visitor thing at your house.

  14. Nooooooo, not those type! Okay, frogs and toads are fine. We have those, they’re cute, but the others kinds with lots of legs and scales… well, I’d prefer they not come over. 🙂 One time a group of neighbor boys were gathered in the field next to our house. I went out to see what was so interesting, only to discover they’d caught a 5 foot long bull snake. Ugh.

  15. My kids just killed a wolf spider in the van. Had I known you were looking for one…I would have saved it for you. If you are interested…I would gladly mail you as many as possible….the more you have the less I have.

Frogs….how cute and tiny!!! We love frogs!!!

Cute snake…..I haven’t seen any snakes here since I hung out the bay window beating up the one trying to eat the bird……Lovely color…:)

  16. ok, might I just add that I don’t like any “visitors” that have more legs than I do??? EEWWW!!

  17. Teresa, The snake has less legs than you. So you must like them. 😀

Ginger, we have a lot of the Wolf Spiders around here. I just can’t find one, when I want one. There is a tiny spider just outside our front door, that I am going to try and take a picture of. It is pretty.

  19. I somehow knew you’d pick up on that Applie. :~)
No, considering I’ve “been there, done that”~ I’ll pass on the snake too Thanks !!

  20. Cool creatures! I just saw one of those frogs. I thought it was a rock and then it jumped and scary the snot out of me. (it was a scary sight)

How big was that snake? Really cool.

  21. Kelley, the snake was three feet long. 🙂
